What is NOXscreen projection screen paint?
How it start? A projector at home is an interesting and useful solution. Unfortunately, even with a perfectly white wall, the results will never be satisfactory, even in a dark room. The light from the projector that hits our home screen bounces off the ceiling and other walls, the displayed image loses in contrast, the colors fade. Even with the smallest amount of light eg from a lamp or when outside light falls into the room, viewing the image from the projector is often impossible.
We decided to do something about it. The projector does not display blacks! So black or dark elements of the image will be as dark as the screen on which the image is displayed. In order not to have to build a special room in a house with a black ceiling and walls, we decided to create a screen paint that will allow displaying the image in high contrast, vivid colors without losing quality with minimal lighting and reflections from the projector.
This is how the paint for the noxscreen projection screens was created. It took us over a year to refine the paint, we started work in May 2017. The final product was ready in August 2018. It went on sale in October 2018.
So what is the NOXscreen screen paint? It is an acrylic paint with an admixture of light reflecting crystals. What is important it is not a “mix” of different paints, which is often found especially among people trying to independently create a screen paint (DIY) by mixing various metallic, pearl and ordinary paints. We tried this solution in the initial phases of our work, unfortunately the results were far from expected, there was always something missing: color, brightness, contrast, bad viewing angles … and we tried all the recipes available on the internet. We changed the approach, we decided to create the paint from scratch, starting with an acrylic base, whose properties turned out to be a very important element of the entire paint, then choosing the right mixture of crystals and their sizes, ending with pigments thanks to which we were able to create a product that gives very high contrast, vivid natural colors high brightness and, above all, ease of application, independently in your home. And we managed to do it, in resultwe made paint for projection screens NOXscreen, easy to apply, environmentally friendly, affordable, for everyone. The paint is available in three base colors for various applications. Below are descriptions of individual paints.
NOXscreen #1 White Snow – it is a white acrylic paint with three types of light reflecting crystals. Paint for self-application to the surface using a high quality acrylic roller for smooth surfaces. This paint can be used on walls, gypsum boards, wooden boards, material substrates (eg white spandex, after adding a plasticizer), remember to make a white base layer of any acrylic or latex paint. Purpose: projection screens in rooms intended for home cinema, properly darkened with dark walls.
NOXscreen #2 Simple Gray – it is acrylic paint in a shade of gray with four types of reflective crystals. Paint for self-application to the surface using a high quality acrylic roller for smooth surfaces. This paint can be used on walls, gypsum boards, wooden boards, material substrates (eg white spandex, after adding a plasticizer), remember to make a gray layer (similar to the color of the screen paint) from any acrylic or latex paint. Purpose: projection screens in rooms with a small amount of light, eg semi-darkness or dedicated cinema halls. The paint provides high contrast, bright expressive image, juicy natural colors, image resistant to light reflection from and to the screen, does not change colors and contrast.
NOXscreen #3 Black Abyss – it is acrylic paint in a shade of dark gray with four types of crystals reflecting light. Paint for self-application to the surface using a high quality acrylic roller for smooth surfaces, we recommend using a paint spray gun to get the best possible projection surface. This paint can be used on walls, gypsum boards, wooden boards, material substrates (eg white spandex, after adding a plasticizer), remember to make a gray layer (similar to the color of the screen paint) from any acrylic or latex paint. Purpose: projection screens in rooms with a small and medium amount of light, eg semi-darkness or dedicated cinema halls. The paint provides high contrast, bright expressive image, juicy natural colors, image resistant to light reflection from and to the screen, does not change colors and contrast.
It should be remembered that the screen paint of each type from any producer will never be Active Light Rejecting (ALR). It is not physically possible. The behavior of the screen made of paint will have pseudo ALR properties and any screen paint manufacturer informing customer that the paint is ALR misleads you. But why? ALR screens have a special surface structure, usually micro channels, or micro holes, thanks to which external light does not fall, or falls to a lesser extent on the reflecting layer of the screen. It is like a protective umbrella against unwanted light. The paint can not have such a structure. It can only get it’s properties closer to the effect, but it will never get rid of unwanted light. It will give the impression that in some conditions this light is simply not noticeable. However NOXscreen paint, will give the desired effect of very high contrast and vivid natural colors. Only remember that the screen is not placed in front of an external light source, eg a window or a lamp. You can see how our screen works on video and photos in gallery. Our projection screen paint provides the best projection surface.
